Name: Ben Boucher-Myers
Job Title: Trainee Environmental Advisor
Company: James Donaldson & Sons

Before joining the JDS Group, Ben completed a degree in Environmental Sustainability at Dundee University and graduated in June 2018. Prior to this he moved down south to study Construction and the Built Environment at UCK in West London.

Ben is currently undertaking a ScotGrad placement with James Donaldson and Sons. His main role as Trainee Environmental Advisor is to drive the group towards the ISO 50001 accreditation that focuses on improving the efficiency of our energy use.

Working closely with representatives from each of the groups subsidiaries to create an Energy Management System, Ben works within the Integrated Systems Department, which focuses on all Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental matters. Some of his biggest achievements so far include the successful inclusion of energy saving ideas, such as stop/start technology and LED lighting. As well as this, Ben has overseen the implementation of defibrillators onto all sites within the JDS Group, as well as increasing local communities’ awareness of the devices in case of nearby emergency.

Ben highly recommends the ScotGrad route to employment, describing this role as giving him a wealth of working experience as well as making him much more employable. The role has helped him focus on what he wants to accomplish in his career and the steps he needs to take to achieve it.

When Ben is not saving energy at work, he is certainly burning it on the football pitch! He previously captained the Dundee University Men’s Football Team alongside his studies and is looking forward to the following season with his new club. In his spare time, Ben can be found in the gym, playing golf or running to keep fit!
