Senior Project Manager - IT and Shared Services Transformation

James Donaldson & Sons is a family of businesses specialising in the processing, manufacturing, merchanting and distribution of timber and associated building products across the UK. At present we have a portfolio of ten specialist business within the group which are located across the UK.

The Senior Project Manager shall be responsible for utilising a standard project management methodology (flexible) to successfully deliver an IT & Shared Services Transformation Project, following several group acquisitions, to meet the business needs & deliverables defined.

This role shall be responsible for overseeing several work streams of the overall project, to avoid duplication of effort & ensure we have consistency vs. our long-term strategic goals / architecture.

This is not limited to but includes: - meeting project deliverables; providing project status updates; resolving issues / mitigating risks; shepherding individual project team members to meet their project deliverables; acting as an escalation point to resolve project resource conflicts / make priority calls on projects to ensure programme of projects is achievable. Overall, foster a collaborative & effective project team.

This will be a contract role for 12 months in the first instance.

Scope

The scope of this project covers IT (infrastructure & ERP), Finance, HR, Quality, Health & safety systems & services.

Location

Ideally Scotland based or ability to travel to Scotland regularly.

Responsibilities

  • Work with key stakeholders to define project deliverables
  • Develop and manage project plans covering all sub projects
  • Set up and manage suitable communication channels for the programme
  • Define and measure Key Process Indicators (KPIs) for the Programme
  • Budget responsibility for the programme
  • Implement and oversee a project organisation structure capable of managing all project staff, consultants, and external providers
  • Manage and mitigate risks, issues & changes
  • To drive adoption of a standard project management methodology, structure, phases, and rigour across the project
  • Work with stakeholders and business leadership to ensure adequate project resourcing
  • Responsible for maintaining oversight of the entire IT transformation project across the group and provide reporting dashboards to senior management as appropriate
  • To provide coaching, support, advice, and assistance to project team members
  • To have an in-depth understanding of organisation-wide issues, their impact on the project and be able to suggest solutions for resolution
  • To ensure that there is formal sign off, defined stage gates and audit trail for the project
  • Work with the business functions to ensure the right resources are available for and assigned to the project
  • Act as point of escalation to the board and stakeholders
  • Ultimately ensure the programme of projects is delivered on time and within budget

Essential Skills

  • Past programme / project management experience of large-scale, end to end, IT systems and / or Shared Service delivery projects
  • Competency using Microsoft Project / XL or equivalent tools to manage project

Beneficial skills

  • Formal Project Management qualification is desirable (PMO, Prince 2, etc)
  • Acquisitions & divestitures experience
  • Shared service delivery or operating within a shared service centre
  • Construction industry experience
  • ERP systems experience

This is a contract role for 12 months initially with a daily rate of around £600-£700.
