Environmental Graduate - ScotGrad 2018 Placement

James Donaldson & Sons (JDS) Ltd is a family of businesses specialising in the processing, manufacturing, merchanting and distribution of timber and associated building products. As part of our ongoing three-year growth plan we are now looking to recruit a talented and committed environmental graduate who can help us develop and deliver ISO 50001, a key aspiration of our environmental strategy and commitment to sustainability.

This is a 12 month placement and is based at our head office in Glenrothes, Fife.

Job description

The overall purpose of the environmental graduate will be to steer JDS to the achievement of ISO 50001 in order to boost our environmental provision to our customers.

Role Purpose

To work closely with the Group IS Manager and quickly become a key member of our integrated systems function, tasked with making improvements in the following areas:

  • Analysis of the baseline energy data
  • Determination of energy inefficiency and identify solutions
  • Determination of plastic use and recommend alternatives
  • Examination of waste streams
  • Working with company champions to deliver improvements in their companies
  • Establish analysis tools to measure results
  • Reviewing performance improvements following audit in autumn 2019

Qualifications

Ideally, you will have a degree in Environmental Management Systems or Quality Business related discipline.

Skills / Experience

  • Enthusiastic, organised and adaptive to changing requirements
  • Great communication skills
  • Attention to detail is important, so a sharp eye and conscientious approach is essential
  • A solid understanding of environmental and quality standards, particularly in relation to energy efficiency and procedures and carbon footprint improvement mechanisms
  • Experience and/or knowledge of working within a manufacturing environment (graduate placement) would be an advantage
  • Hold a clean & full UK drivers licence as you will be required to travel for meetings, and briefings

Desirable Skills

  • A demonstrable passion for a career in environmental management and willingness to keep learning
  • Previous experience of a similar role, either during or post-study

Placement benefits

The courses are themed around environmental management and quality standards and will provide you with knowledge and skills which will enhance your current and future skills.
